Schreppler's Fir Tree Acres

Description:
Schreppler's Fir Tree Acres is a family owned and operated Christmas tree farm. In 1952, Joe and Dorothy Schreppler, and their son Paul, moved to the 29 acre farm and began growing vegetables. In an effort to make better use of the land, Joe consulted with the Delaware Forestry Service and the Kent County Soil Conservation Service in 1957. As a result of this fact-finding effort, he decided to plant evergreen seedlings to harvest as Christmas trees. Douglas Fir seedlings were planted on six acres. In December of 1963, the family sold their first Christmas trees. And so began the cycle of replanting seedlings in the spring, nurturing the trees for six to seven years and then harvesting them as Christmas trees.

During the 1990's, Paul and his wife, Linda, expanded the farm's tree plantings to ten acres. In 2001, ownership of the farm transferred to them. They currently grow 3,000 trees, ranging from 6 inch seedlings to 9 foot trees. Their daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law Neal Donaldson, assist with shearing and pruning, as well as with sales during the Christmas season. For the Schreppler family, tree growing is a family tradition!

Hours:
The farm opens the Saturday after Thanksgiving and remains open through Christmas Eve. Hours of operation are: Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Trees Grown:
Douglas Fir is the only variety the Schrepplers grow on their farm. The Douglas Fir, they explain, will sustain its green color and hold its needles regardless of environmental conditions (like dry and warm weather) prior to harvest, and its limbs are strong enough to support lights and ornaments.
Trees range up to 9 foot. The farm follows a "you choose and cut" format. Saws, netting and shaking are included.

Special Info:
The Schreppler family invites you to visit Fir Tree Acres for a great selection of well shaped trees, to enjoy the beauty of the country and the aroma of evergreens. Bring your family to experience the fun of choosing a real Christmas tree.
