Description:
Coleman's Christmas Tree Farm is a family farm, which has been operated by the Coleman family since 1932. From 1932 to 1951, the farm was owned by William and Elizabeth Coleman and operated as a dairy farm. The first Christmas trees were planted in 1955 to provide habitats for wildlife. In the mid 1960's a few trees were sold to friends and neighbors.
In 1975, the small acreage allotted to trees was taken over by Jack Coleman, while the remainder of the farm continued to grow grains. Each year, Jack expanded the acreage devoted to growing trees. By the mid-1980's the entire farm grew Christmas trees and pumpkins for sale as U-Pick.
Coleman's Christmas Tree Farm is the largest tree farm in Delaware and as such it has always been a leader in agricultural trends. In the early 1990's, Debbie Coleman utilized her educational interests and expertise to offer school tours for children. Thus, Coleman's became one of the first Delaware farms to enter the agritourism business. In 2004 an ice cream shop was added to the farm. The shop has become a popular place to meet friends and neighbors, while sitting on the porch listening to the peacocks call. So, whether you are looking for pumpkins, fresh Christmas trees, delicious ice cream or a nice quiet place to
de-stress, come visit Coleman's.
Jack and Debbie Coleman operate the farm with their children. They are dedicated to providing excellent products and services in a family-friendly atmosphere. Their commitment to their farming heritage is evidenced by the fact that Coleman's Christmas Tree Farm has been enrolled in Farmland Preservation, so that it will remain a farm and never be developed.
